If you want to get out and enjoy nature (very convenient year-round in San Diego!), you can pack up a lunch and some dog bones and head down to the beach or a nearby park. Oh, and here's the current weather:

North Beach	Coronado	Off of Ocean Boulevard. Westernmost part of Coronado City Beach, on border of the Naval Station along Orange Ave.	Good for dogs who like strong surf.
Mission Bay
Fiesta Island	Mission Bay		The whole island is leash-free. You can explore the fields inland as well as the beaches. Very calm water. Watch out for boats and jetskis-choose an area off-limits to both. The least crowded dog beach, even on weekends.
North County Coastal
Dog Beach	Del Mar / Solana Beach	Via Del La Valle & South Highway 101 to Camino del Mar and 29th St. to just south of Via de la Valle at the mouth of the San Dieguito River (next to the Del Mar Race Track).	This beach is open to dogs Sept.-June only. Be aware that there are parking meters all along the road-bring change! Lots of surf, plus an inlet that's a bit calmer. Metered parking along Camino Del Mar with aggressive ticketing. Some free parking just south of the river. Between September 15th and June 15th only.

Dog Beach	Ocean Beach	At the foot of Voltaire Street. W. Point Loma Blvd. and Abbot Street in Ocean Beach, right of the jetty.	The most popular of the San Diego Dog Beaches. Best to visit in winter or on evenings or weekends- gets very crowded on summer weekends. Because it is the most accessable and well-known, you are more likely to run into aggressive or other trouble-making dogs here

Community Park	Poway	Designated area in the southwest portion of Poway Community Park, south of Civic Center Drive and west of Bowron Road.	These parks allow off-leash dogs. All other local parks require dogs to be on leash. Some cities (Carlsbad, Escondido) do not permit any dogs in parks!
San Diego
Centennial Park & Tidelands Park
Mission Trails Regional Park	Allied Gardens / Santee		Technically, dogs are not allowed off-leash in this park. Huge park with many features, accessable from Allied Gardens and Santee. Try Kumeyaay Lake (formerly Hollins Lake), Old Mission Dam, or Cowles Mt. for starters. Watch for wildlife (coyotes, deer, etc.)! Be careful of rattlesnakes and ticks.
Balboa Park	Balboa Park	The sunset side of Laurel Street; the west end of Grape Street, adjacent to the municipal golf course; and the area southwest of Morley Field tennis courts. Three designated areas: 1) west end of Grape Street next to the municipal golf course, 2) an area south west of Morley Field tennis courts, and 3) an area at the west end of Laurel Street.	Morley Field: Behind the tennis club at the Florida Canyon trailheads in Balboa Park. Unfenced, no water available. Plenty of shade and grass.
Mt. Acadia Park	Clairemont	Mt. Acadia Dr. near Mt. Ararat, Clairemont.	Technically, dogs are not allowed off-leash in this park. Nice fenced fields where informal dog play groups meet.
Presidio Park	Downtown
Old Town State Historic Park	Old Town	The park is located on San Diego Avenue and Twiggs Street (619) 220-5422	Old Town San Diego State Historic Park recreates life in the Mexican and early American periods of 1821 to 1872
Marian Bear Memorial Park	San Diego	Genesee Ave. and Hwy. 52, or Clairemont Mesa Blvd. and Hwy. 52., San Diego.	Technically, dogs are not allowed off-leash in this park. Great hiking alongside a stream, under cottonwoods and sycamores. Lots of poison oak, so be careful! Despite nearness to the freeway, a quiet and peaceful hike. Lots of strategically-placed benches. Water available at Genesee Ave. restrooms.
Otay Ranch Center
Tecolote Canyon	San Diego	Can be accessed from many areas-check a Thomas Brothers map. Some points of access are a parking lot on Boyd Ave. off of Genesee near Fox Run, the end of Via Carancho off of Mt. Acadia, a small space on the roadside across from the Tecolote Golf Course on Mt. Acadia, Standley Park in University City, and the visitor's center at the end of Tecolote Canyon Rd.	Technically, dogs are not allowed off-leash in this park. Another really sprawling park, mostly in Clairemont. Lots of nice trails. Watch for rattlesnakes, poison oak, and ticks.
San Diego Inland
Harry Griffen Park	La Mesa	In back of Grossmont High School in La Mesa, off Water Ave.	Technically, dogs are not allowed off-leash in this park. Large, grassy park with a nice jogging path. Very strict about dogs being on-leash-patrolling rangers.
Lake Murray	La Mesa	Lake Murray Blvd. and Kiowa Dr., La Mesa.	Technically, dogs are not allowed off-leash in this park. Don't take water dogs here- they can't go within 50 feet of the water! But lots of fun trails for landlubbers.
